Thanksgiving is over. We’ve even slogged through Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and, for some of us, winter storms. And still the holidays are just getting started. But before you tuck into more holiday shopping, we wanted to share a few thoughts on what we learned from our big, fat Thanksgiving Day turkeys.
Yes, we’re talking about the turkey dinner approach to content marketing. The idea is to treat content just like you treat your turkey. You know, break it down and reuse it because, let’s face it, left overs are a holiday highlight. Sure, you have to make the big bird, but then you slice it, dice it, and transform it into soups and sandwiches and turkey pot pies. Yum!
This same idea works really well with content. Once you have a meaty piece of long form content, like a whitepaper or e-book, you can chop it up and reuse it. Turn a webinar into several blog posts. Use the graphics from your whitepaper in an infographic and pretty up the quotes to use across social channels.
This is a simple tip that can help you earn more bang for your content buck. Just look at each piece of long form content and consider how you can break it down and reuse it. Here’s an example from our own team: a whitepaper we created for last year’s survey of journalists, followed by an infographic we created using data from whitepaper and one of the smaller, social-friendly graphics we used to build hype.
