imagePhysician Reporting Tool Will Help AAOS Respond to Medicare Audits

As you may know, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has beefed-up its Medicare audit program, reviewing physician documentation to verify medical necessity of high volume orthopaedic and other specialty procedures. Over the past year, AAOS has made a concerted effort to educate Fellows about this audit activity.  AAOS has published educational articles in AAOS Now, Advocacy Now, Headline News Now, and has developed a Medicare Audits 101 section on the Government Relations webpage.

AAOS is closely monitoring the CMS audits and is calling on Fellows to report to the AAOS any increased activity that they are experiencing.  To that end, AAOS has added a new audit reporting tool to the Government Relations webpage to make it easy for Fellows or their staff to report audit activity.   It is very important that the AAOS be able to collect this information in order to gauge the severity of the problem, learn which Medicare jurisdictions are affected, and determine where the AAOS needs to take action.  AAOS encourages you to share this tool with your colleagues.

Visit the Medicare Audits 101 webpage now to learn more about the audits and to access the audit reporting tool at the top of the page.
