SPRINGFIELD, November 15, 2012 – Abraham Lincoln remains one of America’s most beloved presidents and no other state in the country is home to as much of Lincoln’s spirit and history as Illinois. And now, with the release of Steven Spielberg’s new blockbuster, Lincoln, there’s never been a better time for visitors to experience the legacy and lore of President Lincoln with a presidential-themed getaway to Illinois.

“With the new film, there’s a renewed interest in Abraham Lincoln’s life and nowhere gets you closer than Illinois,” said Jen Hoelzle, deputy director of the Illinois Office of Tourism. “From Springfield to Alton, New Salem to Chicago, Lincoln’s legacy lives in nearly every corner of the state.”

During his time in Illinois, Lincoln lived in Springfield, Decatur and New Salem. His story is found everywhere from the remarkable presidential Museum and hallowed halls of the Old State Capitol to the meticulously reconstructed log cabin and village that defined his humble upbringing.

Visitors can touch a piece of history at the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site, visit the only home Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd ever owned at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, and  immerse themselves in the interactive exhibits and shows that bring Honest Abe’s legacy to life at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Explore Illinois’ Old State Capitol Historic Site to see where Lincoln first made his mark in the Illinois State Legislature. Finally, visitors can see the only remaining building in which the future President practiced law with a stop at the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices.
