Hand Hygiene and Patient Care Transitions
Launched in 2009, The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare has been developing solutions to the most challenging problems in patient safety. Efforts to improve hand hygiene and patient care transitions are underway, and the Center recently began work on reducing surgical site infections.

More than 70 hospitals across the country are using an innovative tool from the Center to measure hand hygiene and bring solutions to their own settings. Click here learn more about the Targeted Solutions Tool.


Patient care measures go global
Joint Commission International (JCI), the international affiliate of The Joint Commission, accredits more than 380 health care organizations in more than 45 countries. This year, JCI published the International Library of Measures and organizations are starting to collect data on critical indicators of patient care such as heart failure, stroke and psychiatric care. Data will be submitted beginning in 2012.

The Joint Commission Selects Chief Medical Officer
The Joint Commission recently named Ana Pujols-McKee, M.D. as chief medical officer. Dr. McKee will oversee core patient safety initiatives and programs.
