KidsSkinHealth.org is the American Academy of Dermatology’s new
Web site that teaches kids ages 8-12 and their parents about caring
for skin, hair and nails.  There are two portals:  one for kids and one
for grown-ups.

The site helps kids learn about how skin, hair and nails work,
how to take care of them and diseases that affect them.

It’s A Skin Cell’s Life game is a virtual world where kids can
choose the avatar Sammy or Suzy the Skin Cell to earn Health Points
and Health Cents as they practice healthy habits and play games.

Healthy habits include washing their face, showering and putting
on sunscreen and bug spray.

The Skin Smart Challenge lets kids see how much
they know about skin.

Once kids earn enough points, they can visit the yard,
catch bugs and swing on a tire.

Kids can zap UV rays and surf with a dolphin on a
trip to the beach.

Kids are warned to stay away from the bugs and poison ivy when
they visit the park to pick flowers and play on the exercise bar.

At the end of the game, kids can find out how Skin Smart they
are and play again to learn more.

Parents can get information on the site about how to help
their child care for their skin, hair and nails and learn about
adult conditions too.  The site also includes activities for parents
to do with their kids and answers to common questions.
