Simply
put, “blogs” are just personal websites or digital
web logs. There are various related terms such as “blogosphere,” which
refers to the universe of blogs and bloggers. The “blogerati” are
sophisticated blog authors and readers (sometimes referred to
as “blogophiles”). If you send a question
through the blogosphere in hopes of help you are “blegging.” A “credentialed
blog” is a blog authored by a credentialed member of the
news media or analyst community.
“Vlog” is short for “video blog”, a publishing
platform for the distribution of videos.
A “flog”, on the other hand, is a fake blog. Flogs
are usually created by agencies with a pretence of being created
by consumers. They
are often revealed to be false by real, and vigilant, bloggers
and, although appealing to PR and marketing professionals, can
be extremely problematic.
There are, in addition, “splogs” (also called zombie
blogs), sites created by spammers and filled with keywords, news
and keywords with links to sites. Splogs are created to
increase page rankings and site traffic.
